Rectangular Shaped Convex Mirror – Great for Low Ceiling Areas

Shop our rectangular convex mirror for use in areas where a round convex mirror would present clearance issues, such as a low ceiling. They provide the same reflection characteristics as a circular convex mirror, but their footprint is not as large-scale.

Our Heavy Duty Roundtangular Mirrors are designed to fit into lower clearance areas that still need a view comparable to our standard convex mirrors. These mirrors are used in parking garages, loading areas, and blind spots near machinery. The Hardboard, heavy-duty plastic, galvanized steel back, and reinforced vinyl trim protect this mirror from the elements.

Locations for Rountagular Mirror Usage

“Roundtagular” or “Rectangular” convex mirrors are similar to standard round convex mirrors, except a portion of the top and bottom of the mirror is cut off. For example, a 24” x 36” roundtangular mirror is essentially a 36” round convex security mirror with a 6” cut off the top and bottom of the mirror. This is useful for using a convex mirror in your office. If it were a 36” standard convex mirror, it would hang very low and, in some situations, block the door, for example. Since some of the top and bottom are cut off, this might provide enough clearance for the door to open.

Imagine a covered parking garage notorious for lower ceilings. A rectangular convex mirror would allow you to use a large convex mirror, but because the top and bottom portions are removed, it won’t hang too low in the garage.

The lenses are acrylic, which is 17 times more impact-resistant than glass. If scratched, a simple polish will buff out most scratches.

There are two different options below. For indoor use, the hardboard backing is recommended for use. It is more cost-effective and provides a solid back for the mounting brackets to attach to.

You can choose between the heavy-duty plastic back or the galvanized steel for the outdoor options. The heavy-duty plastic back is 1/8” high-density polyethylene, superior to virtually all other backing types. It’s lightweight, rugged, rigid and performs extraordinarily well in extreme temperatures. The galvanized steel is 20-gauge steel, is heavier than plastic, and is significantly more expensive. Although certain situations may call for steel backing, generally speaking, we would recommend heavy-duty plastic.

The weight becomes significant when mounting this mirror outdoors. Due to the mirror’s shape and the steel’s added weight, larger rectangular mirrors need three telescoping mounting arms to withstand heavy winds. We sometimes recommend the newer DomeVex Traffic mirror over the rectangular choices here.

A Rectangular Convex Mirror Is The Ideal Safety & Security Mirror For Low Ceilings & Low Clearance Areas

Retail, grocery, convenience, and liquor stores favor a rectangular convex mirror. A rectangular convex mirror has a distinct advantage over a round convex mirror. A rectangular convex mirror supplies the leeway needed in low-clearance situations. It permits wide-angle vision to see all activity down aisles, hidden corners, gondolas, store displays of high-value assets, below beverage coolers, and around gas pumps. They are an excellent security mirror that provides blind spot coverage in sensitive locations to discourage shoplifting, loitering, and other criminal activity. They will provide years of service and pay for themselves several times over by reducing theft, shrinkage, and adverse behavior.

  • Designed for low clearance use needed in retail establishments.
  • Expand visibility over high-asset areas such as store aisles, displays, and gondolas.
  • Ideal for security mirrors used for theft prevention.
  • Low cost, high return on investment. Pays for itself by loss prevention control.

Manufacturing facilities, industrial plants, and warehouses prefer the benefits of a rectangular convex mirror. Many times in such domains, you are confronted with low ceiling areas or circumstances where machinery, production equipment, assembly lines, or other obstacles prevent the use of a full-sized mirror or a wide-angle view is advantageous. High-traffic areas such as loading docks and shipping/receiving departments need to be efficient with the space they utilize because of the heavy forklift, personnel, and cargo traffic in these areas and either A) have clearance issues or B) need the most comprehensive angle view possible for optimal coverage. Production and manufacturing areas often have low-hanging and snaking lines where a round convex mirror would not fit.

  • Provides wide-angle viewing needed to see along loading docks, production lines, and manufacturing areas.
  • Beneficial in high-traffic locations.
  • It can be used in places where a circular mirror cannot fit.

Schools, hospitals, and offices are another prime candidate for the advantages of a rectangular convex mirror versus a round mirror. Hallways, corridors, and rooms have low ceiling heights. A standard mirror would present an issue due to the area consumed. They would hang much too low and would not fit. Most school rooms, such as libraries, auditoriums, gyms, and classrooms, tend to be more dimensionally oblong rather than square. A rectangular mirror would be better because it exhibits a broader view.

  • Fits nicely down the narrow, low-ceiling hallways and corridors of hospitals.
  • The elongated design of a school room & related facilities matches the comprehensive reflection properties of a rectangular mirror.
