Finding Your Perfect Convex Mirror Match:

Round Convex Mirror Size Considerations:

  • Large (30″ – 48″): Ideal for expansive spaces like warehouses and retail stores, maximizing your field of vision.
  • Medium (20″ – 28″): Well-suited for moderate-sized areas like parking lots and intersections, providing ample coverage.
  • Small (12″ – 20″): Perfect for confined areas like cubicles and restaurants, offering targeted surveillance without overwhelming the space.

Convex Security Lens Material:

  • Acrylic: The most popular choice, offering affordability, impact resistance (17x stronger than glass!), and a lightweight design.
  • Polycarbonate: Unmatched durability (250x stronger than glass) for high-risk environments or areas prone to vandalism.

Choose the Right Backing for Your Safety Mirror:

  • Hardboard: For indoor use, providing a cost-effective and reliable option.
  • Heavy-duty plastic is the best outdoor choice, withstanding weather and harsh elements.
  • Galvanized steel: Offers minimal advantage over heavy-duty plastic for its higher price.

Type of Mounting Brackets for Your Mirror:

  • Z-bracket: Works well for small indoor mirrors, providing a simple and secure installation.
  • Telescoping bracket: Ideal for larger mirrors and windy areas, offering adjustability and stability. Double or triple options for maximum security.

Choosing the right convex mirror isn’t just about size – it’s about finding the perfect blend of durability, clarity, and application. Let’s explore the key elements that make up your ideal mirror:

Lens Material:

  • Acrylic: Bright and lightweight, 17x tougher than glass. Great for most indoor and outdoor use. Scratches easier than polycarbonate, but often polishable.
  • Polycarbonate: Unbreakable champion, 250x stronger than glass. It is ideal for high-risk areas and extreme weather. May scratch slightly easier than acrylic.

Choosing a Backing Type

A common question is, “What are the differences between indoor and outdoor mirrors.” In a nutshell, the main difference is the choice of backing for the convex mirror. With outdoor mirrors, you want to choose a plastic support or galvanized steel. In most cases, the plastic back will be sufficient for outdoor conditions; however, we recommend the galvanized steel backing if the conditions are extreme.

Although the plastic and galvanized steel backings would be okay to use indoors, it will be overkill, as hardboard backing will suffice. The hardboard backing is not weather-resistant, so using it outdoors would not be a good choice.

Backing:

  • Hardboard: Cost-effective for indoor use but not weatherproof.
  • Heavy Duty Plastic: Durable and weather-resistant, suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. Handles moisture well.
  • Galvanized Steel: Best for extreme weather conditions, offering maximum protection.

Choosing Brackets

For convex security mirrors, National Safety Mirror offers two bracket choices: the “z-style bracket” and the “telescoping bracket.” For smaller mirrors, you can use either the z-style bracket or the telescoping bracket based on your needs and preferences; however, for more oversized mirrors, the telescoping mirror, with choices of single, double, or triple brackets, is mandatory.

Single telescoping brackets are acceptable in most outdoor locations for smaller mirrors, but we recommend double telescoping mirrors for medium-sized or larger ones. For extreme wind conditions, we recommend triple telescoping brackets.

Brackets:

  • Z-bracket: Simple and secure for smaller indoor mirrors.
  • Telescoping bracket: Adjustable and stable for larger mirrors and windy areas. Single, double, or triple options for added security.

Weatherproof convex mirrors are made from high-quality, unbreakable polycarbonate or acrylic lenses. The backing material is the protective surface attached to the back of the mirror’s lens. It prevents the lens from damage and keeps moisture from collecting behind the lens, which will erode the reflective film over time.

All our brands are Made in the USA utilizing materials sourced in the United States. This is important because it ensures you have the highest quality materials and craftsmanship. Almost all imported convex safety and security mirrors are constructed of low-grade acrylic, which is poorly manufactured and will turn yellow over time.

  • Manufactured in the USA of USA-sourced materials
  • Hardboard, High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) plastic backing, and galvanized steel protective backings are available.
  • Shop acrylic, or virtually unbreakable lens, polycarbonate.

If you have problems with blind spot areas, collisions at dangerous intersections, or issues with theft or loitering, shop or outdoor convex mirrors are available in various sizes, shapes, lens materials, and backing options. Our acrylic convex mirrors are shatterproof and will not leave dangerous shards if the lens receives a devastating impact. We even carry unbreakable mirrors for the harshest of industrial and weather conditions. Rectangular mirrors are ideal for low-clearance areas where a round convex mirror may be too large.

  • Blind spot area coverage
  • Reduces theft and deters suspicious activity
  • Select the DomeVex mirror, round and rectangular models.

Shop A Round Convex Mirror For Indoor/Outdoor Safety & Security Mirror Use

A Round convex mirror is the most common safety and security mirror utilized today for blind spot coverage in retail stores, warehouses, offices, outdoor areas, and almost anywhere you can imagine. They enhance and complement surveillance systems, loss prevention, safety programs, and routine security around the home. Regardless of the size/diameter, they provide a 160° view and will cover more area than any other mirror type.

  • Covers more area than any other mirror type
  • Indoor and outdoor models are available
  • Choose an acrylic or polycarbonate convex mirror.
  • Select from 5″-48″ diameters

Convenience and retail store owners know the value of a circular convex mirror. They allow for increased vision down aisles, gondolas, around beverage coolers, shopping areas as well as parking lots and gas pumps. They are one of the most effective and least expensive theft deterrents. Shoplifters will think twice before making a wrong decision when they spot a security mirror. Industrial facilities use them to monitor production areas, plant floors, and high accident areas. Warehouses use them to prevent forklift traffic and pedestrian accidents.

Large convex mirrors are the most logical choice for safety & security mirror use in situations where: A) you need to cover vast, open areas or B) you need to view images in detail that a medium or small convex mirror cannot provide even though the area may not be large in size. For spacious areas such as industrial facilities, warehouses, retail showroom floors, or parking lots, a large convex mirror will give you the coverage needed to illuminate blind spots. Mirror positioning is very important, and you may need several mirrors to yield adequate surveillance. In instances where you need the best resolution available even if the scope of the space is not sizable, the larger the security mirror the more detail it will produce. For example, when you need to identify a person by name rather than the presence of an individual or a vehicle by model rather than the presence of a vehicle then this is where a larger mirror will administer clear, concise, higher-resolution images. This is simply due to the fact of the size of the mirror and not the quality of the reflective film.  The larger the mirror the larger the images will appear with less distortion

Shop Our Selection of Small Convex Mirrors

Shop our slight convex mirrors for forklift mirror replacement or to add additional mirrors to the forklift to expand the viewing area for blind spot coverage. Often, having just one forklift mirror on board is insufficient, or the supplied mirror is flat and does not offer the wide-angle view a convex mirror delivers.  Select from rectangular and circular models in glass, acrylic, or highly polished stainless steel. All models come with a universal mounting bracket and are installed with ease.

Forklift mirror installed on forklift
  • For OEM replacement or to work with current mirrors for additional blind spot coverage.
  • Rectangular forklift mirrors are available in 2 1/2″X7″, 4″X8″, and 6″X9″ dimensions.
  • Round mirrors for forklift use are available in 5″ & 8″ diameters.

Tired of people walking into your office, cubicle, or work area unannounced and undetected? Consider utilizing a small convex mirror as a visual annunciator to warn you of the presence of others. Our workstations are often confined and positioned so that our backs are turned away from the entrances and exits. Often, there is no way of knowing when someone enters our personal space. Remedy this startling issue by placing a 5″, 8″, or 12″ convex mirror on your cubicle wall or behind your computer monitor so you can see all activity going on while your back is not facing the room’s entrance.

  • Eliminates surprises by people walking into your workstation unnoticed
  • Installs in minutes behind your monitor, office, or cubicle wall
  • 5″, 8″ & 12″ models are available

Choose our 5″, 8″, or 12″ round convex mirror for use as an elevator security mirror. Unlike dome mirrors, a small convex mirror can be installed virtually anywhere in the cab of an elevator. In contrast, a dome elevator mirror must be mounted at the top of the ceiling in the corner of the elevator cab. This can sometimes prevent a clear line of sight, and a small convex mirror could be a more viable alternative. Select from either glass or acrylic lens. Mounting hardware comes with all models.

  • Elevator mirrors are mandatory in many states and municipalities.
  • Provides more mounting options than dome elevator mirrors.
  • Easy to install, and hardware is included.
