Complete Dome Mirror Specifications

Detailed technical information to help you select the perfect dome mirror solution for your specific requirements.

360°

Full Dome Mirror (360°) – Complete Specifications

The external surface of a full dome mirror represents a half sphere with a convex lens providing a robust 360° panoramic view. Commonly called ceiling dome mirrors, they can be suspended from ceilings with chains or mounted flush to overhead surfaces.

Key Benefits

  • Provides aerial view for comprehensive monitoring
  • Can be used with round convex mirrors
  • Fast and easy installation via flange mounting
  • Pendant chain comes with Full Dome Mirrors
  • Perfect for 4-way intersections

Backing Options

Lens Only – Most economical option with no backing materials. Mounts via pre-drilled flange holes or hanging chains (full dome).
Hardboard Backing – Sturdy fiberboard for increased rigidity. Includes hanging clips for chain/wire mounting for full dome mirorrs only.
Galvanized Steel – Heavy duty non-porous surface for industrial/outdoor use.

Lens Options

Acrylic Lens – Durable, shatterproof design that won’t leave hazardous shards. Available in all backing options and sizes: 12″, 18″, 26″, 32″, 36″ & 48″ diameters.
Unbreakable Lens – Polycarbonate construction with exceptional strength. Will not shatter, crack, or break under punishment. Sizes: 18″, 26″, 32″ & 36″ diameters.

Operative Viewing Range

12″ Up to 18′ away
18″ Up to 27′ away
26″ Up to 39′ away
32″ Up to 48′ away
36″ Up to 54′ away
48″ Up to 72′ away

*Adverse conditions such as low light, poor vision, or obstructed views will affect these calculations.

180°

Half Dome Mirror (180°) – Complete Specifications

A half dome is fundamentally half of a full dome mirror with convex design offering a 180° view. Intended to be mounted flush against flat surfaces, often called hallway safety mirrors for 3-way intersections.

Key Benefits

  • Blind spot coverage for hallways and corridors
  • Perfect for aisles and blind corners
  • Wall or ceiling mount options
  • Works where round convex mirrors cannot
  • Ideal for 3-way intersections

Backing Options

Lens Only – Most economical option. Mounts via pre-drilled flange holes.
Hardboard Backing – Pressed hardboard for increased rigidity. Metal clips for wire/chain mounting.
Galvanized Steel – Heavy duty surface for industrial/outdoor.

Lens Options

All-Vu® Acrylic Lens – Shatterproof design accepting mild to moderate impacts. Available in all backing options. Sizes: 12″, 18″, 26″, 32″, 36″ & 48″ diameters.
DuraMir™ Unbreakable Lens – Exceptional strength, won’t shatter under punishment. Lens only option. Sizes: 18″, 26″, 32″ & 36″ diameters.

Operative Viewing Range

12″ Up to 18′ away
18″ Up to 27′ away
26″ Up to 39′ away
32″ Up to 48′ away
36″ Up to 54′ away
48″ Up to 72′ away

*If viewing distance exceeds guidelines, consider a circular convex mirror for greater detail.

90°

Quarter Dome Mirror (90°) – Complete Specifications

A quarter dome mirror is compact yet extremely practical, using space efficiently where half-dome or full-dome mirrors aren’t viable due to area limitations. Precisely engineered to fit inside corners of two intersecting walls.

Key Benefits

  • Makes effective use of limited space
  • 90° convex “fish-eye” view of entire area
  • Perfect for detecting movement and activity
  • Ideal for blind corners in offices and hospitals
  • Triangle shape fits corner installations

Installation

Quarter dome mirrors mount using pre-drilled holes in the flange. The flange is a thin acrylic edge (1/4″ – 1/2″) that protrudes along the top edge of the mirror.

Best Applications:

  • Offices and hospitals for security
  • Jails for surveillance
  • Retail establishments for theft prevention
  • Areas requiring movement detection

Important Notes

Image Quality: Due to curvature and compact design, reflected images are greatly minimized. Best for detecting movement rather than detailed analysis.

Alternative Option: If greater resolution and detail are needed, consider a round convex mirror for more scope and detailed images.

Industry Applications

Warehouses & Industrial

Full domes prevent forklift collisions at 4-way intersections. Continuous overhead monitoring of high-traffic areas with panoramic coverage.

Retail & Grocery

Overhead viewing of store aisles and gondolas. One dome typically covers two aisles. Multiple domes can cover entire retail establishments.

Healthcare Facilities

Half and quarter domes for hallway intersections and patient room monitoring. Unbreakable options for institutional use.

Convenience Stores

Panoramic full dome coverage for liquor stores and convenience stores. Cost typically pays for itself with theft prevention.

How to Choose the Right Dome Mirror

1

Determine Your Coverage Needs

360° for complete coverage, 180° for directional monitoring, 90° for corner installations

2

Calculate Viewing Distance

Measure the distance you need to clearly see objects and select appropriate dome size

3

Choose Lens Material

Acrylic for standard use, unbreakable polycarbonate for high-impact environments

4

Select Backing Option

Lens only for economy, hardboard for stability, steel for industrial/outdoor use
